Position Summary
Regis High School, a Jesuit, Catholic all-boys high school located in New York City seeks a qualified Director of Campus Ministry to join their Ignatian Identity and Formation team. The Director of Campus Ministry coordinates the school’s liturgical life and the retreat program for the student body, with responsibility focused on the following areas: retreats, liturgies and sacraments, pastoral counseling, and peer ministry leadership. The Director of Campus Ministry also cooperates with the Director of Belonging, Dignity, and Justice and the Director of Social Justice Initiatives in arranging special events that encourage the service of faith and the promotion of justice, with a particular responsibility for the Christian Service Program.
Job Responsibilities
  • Arranges suitable times, places and resource personnel for the Freshman Retreat, Sophomore Quest retreats, Junior retreats, Senior Emmaus and Ignatian Silent retreats, and other retreat experiences he/she deems necessary for the spiritual growth of the members of the Regis community
  • Trains and supports student leaders and staff chaperones for each of the aforementioned retreat experiences
  • Facilitates liturgical worship in the Regis community, coordinates school liturgies for special events, calls upon members of the Regis community to help conduct these liturgies, and makes necessary arrangements with St. Ignatius Loyola Church for liturgies that are celebrated there; Promotes and encourages other prayer experiences in response to the needs of the Regis community
  • Encourages small group liturgies based on natural affinity groups (advisement groups, clubs, teams, etc.) and assists the group and the presider chosen by the group in the preparation of such liturgies
  • Arranges opportunities for the communal celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation are made available at appropriate times
  • Assists the Director of Social Justice Initiatives in implementing the Christian Service Program, including the third-trimester Social Justice Seminars and Service-Immersion trips
  • Is available to serve as a lead chaperone for ONE summer immersion trip; Any additional summer trip supervision will be paid as a stipend via participant fees
  • Provides summertime oversight of programming to ensure that all programs planned for the upcoming year are in good order, with additional attention to necessary program design and revisions (may be arranged remotely)
  • Assists REACH at Regis (late July - mid August) by leading and designing Chapel services and offering administrative help and ministerial presence to the students and staff; These duties will be refined through further conversations with the REACH Director
  • Coordinates and leads the Peer Ministry Retreat that takes place annually during the week prior to Labor Day
  • The four weeks taken off will be determined in consultation with supervisor in accord with programming needs
  • Supports and is willing to advance the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school
  • Works in collaboration with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which Regis stands
  • Performs responsibilities in conformity with the policies of Regis and is subject at all times to the general control and supervision of the Administration
  • And any other job responsibilities as assigned
Education
  • B.A./B.S. in Theology or related field
  • M.A. in Theology or related field
Preferences
  • 5+ years’ experience in a ministerial setting
  • Experience working with adolescents in a high school setting
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • The qualified individual will be a practicing Roman Catholic, motivated by the Gospels and committed to the practice of the faith, and enthusiastic about and committed to nurturing and growing the spiritual lives and religious practice of the entire student body.
  • As a person steeped in Catholic education and formation, he/she will be eager to inspire students to know and practice the tenants of Catholic Social Teaching
  • As someone versed in Ignatian spirituality, he/she can lead and promote the Spiritual Exercises, the Examen, guided meditations and other riches of the Ignatian tradition
Status
This is a full-time, 11-month position, with the 12th month accounting for a combination of accrued vacation and summer flex days. Thirteen (13) flex days to be taken between September 1 and June 15. Typical weekday working hours during the academic year from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Reporting structure
Reports directly to the Vice President for Ignatian Identity and Formation
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range $80,000.00+, commensurate with years of experience. Most benefits go into effect immediately. Participation in the 403 (b) occurs after one year of employment.
Other expectations
The school expects one to conduct oneself at all times in a manner which shall not bring reproach upon oneself or the school.
