Regis Hosts Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Regis held its 23rd annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony tonight, with students, family members, faculty, and staff on hand to spread holiday cheer and see the tree light up the Quad. More than 650 people registered for this year's event, with attendees gathering in the Quad as well as the library overlooking it.

This year's tree was selected by members of Regis's Student Government, and all students were encouraged to donate an ornament to help decorate it. The Engineering Club also designed several 3D-printed ornaments and created their own circuit boards to illuminate them. This year, the Owl mascot was invited to flip the switch to light the tree as onlookers holding candles surrounded it.

The event commenced with prayers and readings in the auditorium. Regis students in the Glee Club and Jazz Club performed under the direction of Mr. Tim Sauer alongside singers from Marymount.

Before the tree was lit, President Rev. Christopher Devron, SJ, offered a blessing and sprinkled the tree with holy water.

"Lord God, we ask you to bless this tree," said Fr. Devron. "May the light and cheer it gives be a sign of joy that fills our hearts."

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed hot chocolate and desserts in the cafeteria and lower gym.
