REACH Counselor - Summer 2023
High School Classes of 2023 (Seniors) and 2024 (Juniors) Only
REACH is seeking motivated high school juniors and seniors to serve in its summer
program as REACH Counselors. The summer program consists of two sessions. The
first session is either 3 weeks overnight at the University of Scranton or 3 weeks by
day at Regis High School (July 6 – July 27). For all Counselors, the second session is
a 3-week day session at Regis High School (July 31 – August 18; weekdays
8:30am-5:00pm).
Counselors must apply to work an entire 6-week session.

At the moment, we are planning to hire our summer staff in preparation for a REACH
Summer at Scranton and Regis. The availability of Fordham's campus is subject to
change given the evolving circumstances of the pandemic. Regardless of Fordham's
availability, we will still employ Counselors this summer. We are grateful for your
flexibility, and we will keep you informed of updates as they arise.
Counselor Responsibilities & Qualifications
Counselors serve as teaching assistants, instructors for electives, recreation and
activity directors and as support for the camp administrative team. Qualified
candidates will be good role models who exhibit the following characteristics:
leadership ability; understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity; social maturity;
high self-initiative; and a good academic record in high school. Counselors must
possess the ability to cooperate with a team and with supervisors, relate effectively to
middle school students, provide direction to individual students and groups of students
and motivate students through positive encouragement.
Though not required, REACH seeks applicants with the following additional
qualifications: previous experience working with middle school students; proficiency in
Spanish; lifeguard training; and any particular skills, talents or interests that can be
shared during the summer program (e.g. musical instrument/voice, visual arts, specific
academic or intellectual interests, athletics, other recreational interests, unique hobbies,
etc.).
Compensation & Benefits
This position pays $285.00 a week. Returning counselors are paid a $100 bonus for
your commitment to the program. At the University of Scranton, Counselors are
provided with room and board at no cost, as well as round trip transportation. During
the day program at Regis, Counselors who live in one of the five boroughs of New York
City and have not graduated from high school will be eligible for free public
transportation. All other students are responsible to pay for their own commuting
expenses.

All interested students must complete the
REACH Counselor Supplement, and have a
teacher or guidance counselor complete the
REACH Counselor Recommendation Form. In
addition, applicants must also have a parent fill out and sign the Parental Consent Form,
and email it to the REACH Scranton Co-Director, Mr. Hunt:
