Students at Regis have many opportunities to serve and learn from people beyond the New York area. We offer a wide range of trips across five continents for service, cultural exchange, and learning. These trips, which take place during the summer or other breaks from school, complement our academic and Ignatian formation programs.
Global Education
Alabama, United States
Racial Justice Immersion
This trip to Alabama immerses students in places important to the Civil Rights movement. Students visit museums and monuments, hear lectures, and do service work in Montgomery, Mobile, and Selma.
Berlin, Germany
Berlin Exchange Program
Regis offers a two-week cultural and language exchange trip to Berlin for German-speaking Regians. Students on this trip have visited the Neues Palais, the Juedisches Museum, among other sights. As part of the program, students from Canisius Kolleg also visit New York.
Kingston, Jamaica
Regis in Jamaica
Regis offers a one-week service trip to Kingston, Jamaica, during the February break to work with Mustard Seed Communities, a faith-based non-profit organization that cares for more than 500 children and adults with disabilities or HIV/AIDS.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Regis in Malaysia
Open to students who have been tutoring online with the Zotung Catholic Refugee Learning Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this trip takes place in mid-July. Students will teach for a full week at Zotung, which serves students from the Chin community whose families have fled persecution in Myanmar. Participants also take part in cultural day trips.
Madrid, Spain
Madrid Exchange Program
Regis offers a two-week cultural and language exchange trip in Madrid for Spanish-speaking students. Students on the trip have visited the Museo del Prado, Palacio Real, and other sights. As part of the program, students from Colegio de Nuestra Senora del Recuerdo also visit New York.
Nairobi, Kenya
Kibera Immersion Trip
Students each summer travel to Nairobi to visit St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School, which offers Catholic education to students in Kibera, Africa's largest slum. During the academic year, these students are among the Regians who volunteer to remotely tutor St. Aloysius students. While on the tip, Regis students also have the opportunity to take part in cultural activities.
Nanjing, China
Ricci-Xu Young Scholars Program
The Ricci-Xu Young Scholars Program is a cultural leadership and exchange program that brings together students from Regis, Dominican Academy, and Nanjing Foreign Language School in China for regular conversations. As part of the program, Regis offers a two-week cultural and language immersion program in Nanjing, in collaboration with Dominican Academy and Nanjing Foreign Language School. Students on this trip have toured the Classical Gardens of Suzhou, competed in dragon boat races, and taken a cooking class at a culinary school, in addition to other tours and lectures.
Nogales, Arizona, United States
Kino Border Initiative
The Kino Border Initiative promotes U.S.-Mexico border and immigration policies that affirm the dignity of the human person and a spirit of bi-national solidarity through education and humanitarian aid. Participants will immerse themselves in border education and migrant culture.
Paris, France
Paris Exchange Program
Regis offers a two-week cultural and language exchange program to Paris for French-speaking students. Students on this trip have taken a tour of Versailles, visited the Museum of the Liberation, and taken part in a walking tour and scavenger hunt around the city. As part of the program, students from Lycee Saint Louis de Gonzague also visit New York.
Quito, Ecuador
Regis in Ecuador
This service immersion experience is a unique opportunity to be in communion with and serve the most vulnerable in Quito, Ecuador. This trip takes place in June at Quito's Fundación Familias Trabajadores, which was founded by Rev. John Halligan, SJ, and pursues a holistic approach to family development, reaching out to the poorest segment of Quito's population.
Rome, Italy
Regis in Rome
Regis partners with the Paideia Institute for a five-day trip to Rome during the Easter break. Students on this trip have walked the Via Sacra in the Roman Forum, explored the Roman Colosseum, visited several papal basilicas, and read an oration of Cicero standing next to the Senate House where Cicero himself gave it more than 2,000 years before.
West Virginia, United States
Appalachia Service
This program educates participants in the history and culture of the Appalachian region while examining issues surrounding rural poverty, sustainability, and environmental degradation through communication and volunteering with locals. Two trips are available. The first is in the Wheeling area through the Appalachian Institute at Wheeling University. Students take part in service surrounding food insecurity and learn about industry and the environment. The second is in a more rural area that varies each year through the West Virginia Ministry of Advocacy and Workcamps. WVMAW is a non-profit organization that was created to help residents whose homes have been destroyed by natural disasters, particularly flooding. Work includes home repair and reconstruction, playground restoration, and parks cleanup.
