Language

The Language Department offers courses in French, Spanish, German, Chinese, and Latin. Students are expected to complete three years of study in one language and can take a fourth year as an elective. All languages are valued for their cultural and historical significance, fostering communication skills and providing insights into diverse traditions and societies.

Freshmen

  • Honors Language I or II* (Chinese, French, German, Latin, or Spanish)

Sophomores

  • Honors Language II or III

Juniors

  • Honors Language III or IV

* A placement test determines the level at which freshmen begin language studies.

Latin Research Project

This elective allows students with a passion for the classics to deepen their understanding of Latin. In this year-long program for academic credit, students work independently and as a cohort under the advisement of a faculty member. Additionally, students can choose a one-trimester program built on research conducted at the Institute for Study of the Ancient World.
