Lucas Bujosa ’26 Addresses Attendees at Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice
Lucas Bujosa ’26 addressed attendees at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington, D.C., earlier this month, delivering remarks on kinship and being men and women “for and with others.” Bujosa was one of 24 Regians who attended the event, which is sponsored by the Ignatian Solidarity Network to promote faith and justice initiatives and connect thousands of Jesuit organization members.
The IFTJ was first held in 1997 to honor six Jesuit priests who were killed by military forces in El Salvador in 1989. The event continues the work of these martyrs, giving those gathered an opportunity to learn, reflect, pray, and advocate for justice. Programming includes speeches from students and other prominent voices in the Jesuit community, as well as breakout sessions.
Bujosa spoke on the importance of service from the event's main stage.
"Service is the driving force that has pushed me," said Bujosa, "and that will ideally push all of you, as well, to ask, 'What are the most prevalent issues in my community, and how can I address them?' To serve should not just be to be for others, but to be with others — a communion with a fellow human being in an interaction grounded in mutual understanding and a desire to see the innate value of someone else."
Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Michael Libunao-Macalintal also spoke at the event, delivering remarks on cultivating hope for the betterment of others and justice in the world.
