Former FDNY Battalion Chief Dan Daly Preaches Kindness and Service on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

Former FDNY Battalion Chief Dan Daly spoke to Regians on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks Friday, describing his experiences at Ground Zero and encouraging students to be men of courage, compassion, character, and service.

On September 11, 2001, Daly was among the FDNY personnel who rushed to the World Trade Center following the attacks. During his remarks to students, he described not just his memories of that tragic day, but his recollections of the weeks and months that followed, when he witnessed untold acts of kindness at Ground Zero as volunteers pitched in to provide first responders with food, supplies, and comfort.

"God was alive and well at Ground Zero," said Daly, a recipient of the New York State Liberty Medal. "The legacy of 9/11 wasn't, Look what heinous people can destroy; it's like, Look what we can build when we come together and treat each other with kindness and love.

Since leaving the FDNY, Daly has traveled the world to deliver messages of hope and peace. He spoke to Regis students about the importance treating others with respect and dignity.

"Do not underrate the difference you can make in another person's life," said Daly.
