Outdoor Track and Field Wins Third Consecutive CHSAA Class A Sectional Title
The Regis outdoor track and field team won its third consecutive CHSAA Class A sectional championship last weekend, with a number of students also capturing gold in individual events.
James Stappenbeck ‘25 won his second straight track MVP award with wins in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, while Andrew Klimczak ‘27 took the silver right behind him in both events. Regis also won all three throwing events in the tournament for the first time. Matthew Kang ‘26 won both the shot put (with a mark of 48 feet, 1 inch) and the discus. Jude Morrison ‘25, ranked No. 1 in the entire league in the javelin, won his event with a throw of 156 feet. Griffin Conway ‘28 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in his debut in the event. The 4x800-meter relay team of Adam Cartano ‘25, Ethan Klimczak ‘25, Colin Butler ‘27, and Xavier Neptune ‘27 also took home gold medals. As a team, Regis scored 73 points, 33 more than the nearest competitor.
“The team did what it does,” said Mr. Chris Febles, head coach of the field events. “They worked hard all season in all kinds of weather. They paid attention to coaching. They got psyched for the events and gave their best effort in every meet. Best of all, they seemed to jell together as a team. It was nice to see them not just win, but thoroughly enjoy themselves.”
