The Regis community joins Catholics around the world in joy, unity, and hope as we celebrate the election of Leo XIV, the first American and the first Augustinian pope.

We pray that God may strengthen and encourage Leo XIV, so that he may lead our Church with fidelity to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serve as a model of charity and humility.

The following prayer was read throughout the building today following news of Leo XIV's election:

Good and gracious God,
We rejoice today for the election of Pope Leo XIV.
We pray that Your spirit may descend upon him,
So he may be strengthened in faith, hope, and love,
And conformed to Christ as he begins his ministry.
May he be compelled to be an advocate for the most marginalized,
A pursuer of peace, a shepherd for the lost and lonely,
And a constant force for Your kingdom here on Earth.
Finally, through the Holy Father’s leadership,
May each of us here at Regis, joined with Catholics around the world,
Seek to be a missionary Church, a Church that builds bridges and dialogues,
Rooted in love, compassion, mercy, and light,
For the greater glory of God, now and forever.
Amen.
