Regis Celebrates Christmas Liturgy
The Regis community joined together on Friday for its annual Christmas liturgy at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola. Former Regis English teacher Rev. Brendan Coffey, SJ, celebrated the Mass — the first he's celebrated for the Regis community since his ordination in June. Also concelebrating the Mass was President Rev. Christopher Devron, SJ, Director of Mission and Identity Rev. James Ferus, SJ, and history and Latin teacher Rev. Arthur Bender, SJ '67.
"Today we not only celebrate that love came into the world, today we remember that God is always sending His love into our world." said Fr. Coffey in his homily. "Though we may not play as significant of a role as Mary in God's saving plan, we, like her, have the freedom to choose the liberation that is God's love in our lives."
Regis's Liturgical Music Club, led by Music Director Mr. Jacob Elkin, provided music for the Mass, singing Christmas songs such as "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel."
Following Mass, students returned to 84th Street for advisement group Christmas parties.
