Regis Mourns Robert Weimann, Longtime Science Teacher

Mr. Robert Weimann, longtime member of the Regis faculty, passed away on March 27, 2019 at the age of 84.

Mr. Weimann, affectionately known as “Bio Bob” within the Regis community, began his teaching career with brief stints at Salesian High School and then Fordham Preparatory, before joining the Regis High School faculty in the fall of 1966. During his tenure as a member of the science department, Mr. Weimann served on numerous committees, moderated a variety of clubs, and taught classes in health, chemistry, biology and advanced placement biology. Mr. Weimann remained at Regis for the rest of his career, retiring at the conclusion of the 2001 academic year.

For generations of Regians, Mr. Weimann was easy to spot in his signature blue lab coat. He was easy to hear, often rattling a pocket-sized package of the orange Tic-Tacs he loved. And his students were easy to identify, most prominently through the colorful biology illustrations which he enjoyed assigning as homework.

But it was his joy for teaching and his love for the Regis community that defined him. In a Summer 2001 tribute to the then-retiring Mr. Weimann, longtime science department colleague Mrs. Patricia Hannon wrote, “it is a rare day when you find a frown on Bob’s face. He is one of the happiest people you will ever meet and has a kind word for everyone.”

Mr. Weimann had a gift for dispelling freshmen anxiety over upcoming exams, and for encouraging students to work hard, do well, but not to forget to have fun along the way. Legions of Regis students, recalled Hannon in her tribute, will remember the kindness shown to them by Mr. Weimann and the energy and joy he brought to the classroom and science resource center each day.
