Welcome to Spirit Week! All this week, Regis students and faculty are taking part in a series of activities, competitions, and grub days in the lead-up to Friday's basketball tripleheader against Xavier. Click here to watch our livestream of the games. The freshmen tip off at 3:45 p.m., the JV match-up gets underway at 5:15 p.m., and the varsity game begins at 7 p.m.
The festivities kicked off Monday with a game of Family Feud between students and faculty, a student baking competition, a Spikeball tournament, and a basketball game between freshmen and sophomores that saw the ninth-graders emerge victorious in overtime in a sudden-death free-throw competition. Meanwhile, all day long students wore sports jerseys representing their favorite teams.
Tuesday’s events included faculty Jeopardy!, a Dave’s Hot Chicken-eating contest, and a basketball game between the juniors and seniors that ended in a senior victory thanks to some unorthodox scorekeeping and creative officiating. Throughout the day, students wore their favorite beach attire, bringing a summer feel to the frosty day on 84th Street.
On Wednesday, Spirit Week reached its midpoint with a pajama grub day, a paper airplane contest, and student performances in the cafeteria.
On Thursday, advisement groups chose their own grub day themes, students took part in a Clash Royale tournament, and the seniors came out on top in the annual senior-faculty basketball game. The faculty has requested that the result be described as a “narrow victory” (it wasn’t).
On Friday, students filled the auditorium for a pep rally to show their support for Regis’s basketball teams. Regians cheered on their classmates in anticipation of the basketball tripleheader at Xavier. Introduced by Student Government representatives, the Regis Owl and the basketball teams marched through a red sea of Regians and finished the pep rally by singing the alma mater.
Throughout the week, faculty members and students will be vying to accrue the most points for their advisement groups.
