Regis fields both JV and Varsity baseball teams. Each team competes in the highly competitive CHSAA “A” division. Tryouts are conducted during the fall season when the varsity will play a fall schedule against other CHSAA schools. Optional baseball winter workouts take place at the school inside the upper and lower gyms typically 1 day a week in January through March. Practice for both teams begins in early March alternating between the indoor facilities at the school and at our practice field, Van Nest Field, located at 1500 Waters place in the Bronx, right along the 6 train. It is a short 15 minute walk to the field. The JV team also plays their home games at Van Nest Field, while the varsity plays their home games at SUNY Maritime’s baseball field located at 6 Pennyfield Avenue, Bronx NY overlooking the NY City skyline.
Often, the Varsity will travel to Florida for a pre-season spring training trip, where they play games, and bond together as a team. League schedules begin in early April, and usually run through the end of May.
The Varsity team won back to back CHSAA “B” Division City Championships at Shea Stadium in 2001 and 2002. In 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008, the team claimed the top spot in the CHSAA’s Bronx/Manhattan “A” division. The team has qualified for the playoffs in every season since.
Last season, Matthew Clarkin ’18 and Edward Jarvis ’18 were selected as CHSAA All-League candidates, and also to News 12 Varsity’s Honorable Mention team.
