REACH Summer Session 2017 Positions
The REACH (Recruiting Excellence in Academics for Catholic High Schools) Program at Regis High School is currently seeking to fill faculty positions for its 6-week summer session.
The REACH Program
Founded by Regis High School in 2002, REACH is an entirely free education and leadership enrichment program that prepares Catholic, middle-school aged boys to earn scholarships to Regis, as well as to other top Catholic high schools in New York City. Designed as an access program, REACH serves students whose families demonstrate significant financial need. REACH currently serves 117 students in grades 6th through 8th in its summer, fall Saturday and spring Saturday sessions. At any given time, REACH students attend more than 50 different parochial and public grammar schools throughout the city. , REACH serves its students and alumni by caring for their intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social development.
The 6-week summer session consists of a 3-week boarding component either at the University of Scranton in eastern Pennsylvania or at Fordham University in the Bronx (both from July 6th to July 27th), and a 3-week day component at Regis High School in Manhattan (July 31st – August 18th). The session brings together 130 middle school students for accelerated course work. In addition to their academic courses, students participate in programs designed to foster their leadership and spiritual development, and enjoy numerous arts and recreational opportunities. The following summer positions are available:
6th Grade Advanced Math (6 weeks):
At Fordham and Regis, the teacher will teach two sections of Advanced Math to rising 6th grade students. A course textbook and an established scope and sequence for the accelerated summer course are available as instructional resources. Class sizes are limited to 10 students.
Faculty and staff receive a full stipend of $4,680 for the summer. For the 6th grade position, faculty members are expected to work at Fordham Preparatory School from 8:40 am-3:00 pm. At Regis, faculty hours are generally 8:50 am to 3:30pm.
Preferred qualifications include an academic degree in your field of teaching interest, 3-5 years of middle or high school teaching experience in the given field, experience in teaching academically gifted students, experience teaching students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to the REACH mission.
