Ellin O'Brien, former mathematics teacher at Regis, died on October 14 after a brief illness. Mrs. O'Brien joined the Mathematics department in 1973, and instructed Regians for over two decades until her retirement in the spring of 1996.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. O'Brien attended Fontbonne Hall Academy, Marymount College and Fordham University where she earned an MS in mathematics. She was known as an avid bridge player and a fabulous cook. Her optimism, quiet grace and dignity were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Mrs. O’Brien's affection for Regis extended beyond her duties as a member of the Regis faculty, as she was also the wife of Francis O’Brien '44 ✝ and mother to three Regians (Francis '74, Paul '76, and Matthew '81).

obrien02According to Dr. John Tricamo, chair of the Regis English Department, Mrs. O'Brien was an especially devoted math teacher and, both then and during her retirement, one of Regis's strongest supporters.

"She believed strongly in the Regis mission and was never hesitant to share her convictions with others, however familiar they might be with Regis or whether they were hearing about Regis for the first time," said Tricamo.
