Flashback: Alumni News in 1942
"Battle" will be a word much upon our lips from now on. There were Regis men in the fighting at Pearl Harbor and there will be many more of our number in the far-flung battle lines of this war. The men too who cannot be spared from home responsibilities will know the sacrifice and self-denial by which victory is won. We must gird for battle.

The years in those classrooms that border the Quadrangle would have been in vain had they not imprinted upon our ideals the Regis seal--"Deo et Patriae": it was to serve our God and country that we prepared. And now there is need for our service.

-- Excerpt from the February 1942 Regis Alumni Newsletter

1942 ClippingThe year was 1942. New York's Governor was Thomas Dewey, the city's Mayor was Fiorello La Guardia, and the country was embroiled in the Second World War. A young but now well established Regis High School was celebrating its 25th graduating class.

What did the alumni newsletters look like back then? The war effort, no doubt, was on the minds of most Americans. The excerpt reprinted above from the February 1942 newsletter is certainly proof of that.
